We are Bud and Jodie Keim living in Sonoita, Arizona, 40 miles S.E. of Tucson, on 30 acres of high grassland at 5000' elevation. Previously, we had a very successful Paint horse operation, exhibiting and breeding, for 15 years. In 1981, we got our first Harlequin Great Dane and fell in love with the breed and slowly acquired more...and more...and more. In 1996, we decided to phase out our Paints and "went to the dogs". Our breeding bitches are in kennels, but all the show dogs and puppies have the run of the house and property. Starting out as Jaybee Danes we purchased our first show prospect in 1988 from Michael Chiles.



Michael Chiles who lives in Toledo, Ohio, developed a passion for the Great Danes during his senior year in high school when he acquired his first Great Dane. Michael is a professional handler and has bred and co-bred, owned and co-owned and handled numerous Champions under his prefix Michaeldane, over the past 25 years. Some of these include BIS BISS CH Longo Sweettalk V Michaeldane, CH Dagon Clorox N'Co, CH Michaeldane Mastercharge, CH Michaeldane Diana-Link Dagon, and CH Michaeldane Touch of Class. Michael also handled CH Meadowood's Milton of Svevo to multiple BIS and BISS awards.

We developed a mutual feeling about breeding and exhibiting which eventually led to us joining together since 1989 in a partnership in the breeding and exhibiting of Great Danes, specializing in HARLEQUINS. It has been a great relationship and has proven successful, having finished Championships on 11 dogs since the early 1990's including 2 this year, 2001. We are now known as MICHAELDANE/JAYBEE DANES and this is working well with Bud and Jodie in the southwest and Michael in the midwest and east. Bud and Jodie are members of the GREAT DANE CLUB OF AMERICA and the GREAT DANE CLUB OF TUSCON, and currently board members. Bud is past president of the GDCT. JAYBEE DANES was Breeder of the Year in the GDCT in '95,'96,97,99,00 and 2001. Michael is a member of the GDCA, GREAT DANE CLUB OF MILWAUKEE and WOLVERINE GREAT DANE CLUB, INC. Michael is currently showing our young stud dog, BISS CH MICHLDN JB DGN M T POCKETS NTL and  NATOLITE N' MICHAEL DANE TO TLK ABOUT and WEST COAST JP'S MIKLDNJB SECRET LUV in the midwest and east.  

We also both co-own several dogs with our good friend Chaun Copas, (Elgin, AZ., email:  Chaun@theriver.com), who cares for our dogs when we are on the show circuit. Chaun is a member of the GDCT.

MICHAELDANE/JAYBEE DANES won Winners Bitch at the Great Dane Club of California Specialty three years straight, '97, '98 and '99, with Crystal, Secret and Gracie retiring the Challenge trophies. We have numerous offspring in Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico and from coast to coast in the United States.

As breeders of HARLEQUIN, MANTLES and BLACKS we strive to produce dogs with soundness, type, movement, temperament and personality. Michael Chiles occasionally has a litter of Fawn/Brindle puppies.

"We sadly add to our bio that Bud Keim died June 26, 2004 of cancer and he is greatly missed by Jodie and Mike and all his Great Dane friends. Jodie and Mike are carrying on the Michaeldane/Jaybee tradition as Bud would have wished."
